Trip description.
”The Singing Barchan” – inimitable wonder of nature. This is a natural phenomenon on the right bank of Ili river is famous for the fact that in dry weather the sands make sounds similar to a melody of organ. This huge dune is up to 100 meters high and spreads over a distance of 3 kilometers. “The Singing Barchan” makes unforgettable experience, its roaring and vibrations are caused by barely discernible sloughing of sand from the slopes. Friction caused by motion of dry sand particles, in combination with dry air electrify them, result in vibration and favorable conditions for resonance create powerful sound waves, which, by reflection from dense soil, cause the barchan’s vibration. Еры sound can be heard in several kilometers. In damp weather the barchan does not “sing”. It is curious that the barchan does not mole along the plain, despite sand’s unsteadiness and strong winds, but stays in its place for several millenniums. Its south-western slope is smooth and the opposite on at the North-East has several combs with gentle slopes. Feral comb of the barchan with several distinct peaks allow exotic mountain skiing from the slopes of unique barchan. The Singing Barchan arising from the semi-desert area, impresses with its greatness and remains intact in course of centuries. You can visit the site travelling with us.
